How to Play the ACTUAL Irish Lotto Online

October 29, 2019 9:00 am Published by

Irish LottoMany different betting sites offer lottery betting as an option to punters and the vast majority operate in the same way…

They let punters build bet lines made up of the balls those punters think might feature in a lotto draw. They then offer fixed odds payouts which differ according to how many numbers a punter tries to match – you don’t play the ACTUAL lotto.

Unibet, though, do things differently.

With them, you can play the Irish Lotto and win the official lottery prizes. Including each draw’s minimum jackpot of £1.4m. If that’s got your attention – and let’s face it, it probably has – you’ll want to read on.

We’re going to take you step-by-step through the process of playing the Irish Lotto with Unibet. Then, we’ll explain exactly how it all works and what your chances are of winning big.

How To Play The Irish Lottery Online

You’re going to need a betting account with Unibet to buy your tickets so head on over there now and open one up if you haven’t already. Don’t forget there’s a new customer bonus to claim (details below).

Step One: Where To Buy Tickets

In many ways, playing the Irish Lotto with Unibet is like placing any other wager with the bookie.

Go on over to Unibet on your phone or laptop and log in to your account. Scroll across the top menu bar until you see the ‘Lottery Betting’ option. It’s illustrated by a traditional Lotto machine with four balls within it. Tap that icon to go to Unibet’s dedicated lottery betting section.

You’ll then see a list of all the lotteries which Unibet let punters play. They’ll be listed in order of how soon each Lotto’s next draw is. Scroll down the list until you find the Irish Lotto and tap the relevant icon.

Step Two: Choosing Your Numbers

What you’ll see next is a screen which looks quite a lot like a traditional lottery ticket. You interact with it in exactly the same way. Tap the six numbers you want to play for the Lotto draw from the grid from 1-47. Each number will be shaded in green once you’ve tapped it.

Lottery Numbers

When you’ve picked your six numbers, scroll down to the next section of the screen. It displays 12 thumbnail images of Lotto grids like the one you’ve just used. If you’ve chosen six numbers above, the first of those thumbnails will have a green tick on it.

You can use the other thumbnails to pick up to eleven more lines to play on the next Irish Lotto draw. To add additional lines, simply tap the next numbered thumbnail. Then select your chosen numbers as you did for your first line.

Step Three: Playing Irish Lotto+

*This step is optional

Beneath the 12 lottery ticket thumbnails, there’s one more notable section of this screen. It’s titled ‘Extra game’ and features a button labelled ‘Irish Lotto+’. You can tap that button if you want to take part in the Plus 1 and Plus 2 draws as well as the main Irish Lotto Draw.

Irish Lotto +

Plus 1 and Plus 2 are additional draws which always accompany the main Lotto draw. Their jackpots and prize tiers are lower than the main draw, but it only costs 50p to enter both. There are more details on how these draws work below in our ‘how does it work’ section.

Step Four – Buy Your Tickets

Once you’ve picked your numbers and decided if you want to play Plus 1 and Plus 2, you can place your bet. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and you’ll see that your total stake amount will already be displayed. You can’t choose how much to bet when you play the Irish Lotto with Unibet as the price of a ticket is set.

Each selection of six numbers costs you £2.00. If you choose to enter the Plus 1 and Plus 2 draws, an additional 50p is added to your stake. If you chose six sets of numbers and wanted to play them all in all three draws, for example, your total stake will always be £15 (6 x £2.50).

If you’re happy with your numbers and the stake, you just tap the yellow ‘Place Bet’ button. Unibet will confirm your bet like any other and it will appear in the unsettled bets area of your account.

Now just wait for the official results and prizes to be annouched and see if you’ve won! You can see this on the ‘Results & Numbers’ tab in the Irish Lotto section at Unibet.

How Does Irish Lottery Betting With Unibet Work?

Irish Lottery betting with Unibet is different to what all other bookies offer.

They let you to replicate the experience of playing the ACTUAL Irish Lotto, but via your betting account. You’re not, however, actually taking part. You are still placing a bet with Unibet and it’s they who pay out any winnings.

That said it’s basically EXACTLY the same as playing the actual Irish Lottery.

When betting on the Irish Lotto with Unibet:

  • You always pick six numbers
  • Your stake amount for each set of numbers is always £2.00.
  • The Irish Lotto+ costs extra if selected
  • You will always be paid out the same amount as you’d have got for playing the actual draw.

The above is what Unibet mean when they say that…

…you can bet on the Irish Lotto with Unibet and win the same prizes the official lottery offers.

It’s pretty much as simple as that. There are just a few things that might need a little more explanation. Most notably, how the Plus 1 and Plus 2 draws work. As well as how much you might be in line to win through Unibet Irish Lotto betting.

How Do the Plus 1 & 2 Draws Work?

Each time there’s a main Irish Lotto draw there are also two additional draws. Those draws also both comprise six numbers and a bonus number from 1-47. The prizes offered for those draws, however, are considerably lower than for the main draw. Plus 2 draw prizes are also much lower than those for Plus 1.

Everyone who plays the main Irish Lotto draw can choose to also enter their numbers for the two extra draws. All they have to do is to pay an extra 50p to do so. It’s exactly the same with Unibet’s Irish Lotto betting.

You can choose to add 50p to your stake and play your numbers for Plus 1 AND Plus 2. That gives you the chance to get winning combinations on either of those extra draws. If you do, you’ll be paid winnings equal to the prize you’d have got if you were an actual Irish Lotto player. At least one who entered the extra draws.

What are the odds of winning?

Numbers Odds
Six 10,737,573/1
Five & Bonus 1,789,596/1
Five 44,74/1
Four & Bonus 17,896/1
Four 918/1
Three & Bonus 688/1
Three 54/1
Two & Bonus 72/1

Irish Lotto betting from Unibet operates in exactly the same way as the actual Irish lottery.

You always pick six numbers and have to match two and the bonus or more. As such, the odds of winning with Unibet are exactly the same as if you played the actual Lotto.

The chance of matching two main numbers and the bonus is 1:72. The odds of hitting the jackpot by matching all six numbers are much longer at 1:10,737,573. Your odds of winning the intermediate prizes fall between those values, as shown in the above table.

When is the lottery drawn?

Like many global lotteries, the Irish Lotto is drawn twice a week. The main draw and the Plus 1 and 2 draws all take place at the same time. That’s at 20.00 GMT on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
