New Customer Bonus & Promotions
Whilst many punters may only associated Totesport with the traditional form of Tote betting on horse racing, the brand does actually provide a full online sportsbook.
In order to attract customers to the sportsbook, Totesport run a welcome promotion which gives them a total of £35 in bonuses.
The bonus is split into two part starting with a bet £25 get £25 sportsbook (min odds 2.0) offer and followed by a bet £10 on Totepool get £10 cashback deal. In order to qualify for the promotion, a customer’s first bet must be placed on a sportsbook market and be settled within 30 days of account registration.
T&C's apply, 18+ new customers only.
If a brand new Totesport customer who is eligible for the bookmaker’s welcome promotion triggers the £10 free bet successfully then they will have to use that free bet token before withdrawing.
The free bet can be used to place a sportsbook bet without risking any real cash, but cannot be withdrawn. If the wager placed using the free bet balance is successful, any winnings returned are entirely withdrawable. Those winnings, however, will be exclusive of the initial free bet stake.
The cashback part of the bonus is paid in cash and is available to withdraw once credited.

As the above may well have revealed, Totesport is an online bookmaker lacking in some of the features offered by their major competitors. Whilst things like cash out and live streaming are absent, however, the company do still provide a good range of betting markets to their customers. Those markets encompass and cater for all of the following sports:
- Horse Racing
- American Football
- Aussie Rules
- Gaelic Football
- Greyhound Racing
- Ice Hockey
- Motor Sports
- Rugby League
- Rugby Union
- Winter Olympics
Some of the above sports obviously have more available betting markets than others but Totesport provide a very decent betting service for all of them.
That service includes offering in-play as well as pre-event markets for many competitions and matches across a number of the sports. It’s quick and easy to pinpoint which of the events priced up by Totesport will be taken in-play, as each is indicated by a small in-play icon depicting a green clock.
In-Play Review of Totesport
The three main sections of the Totesport website are the ‘Sports’, ‘Totepool’ and ‘In-Play’ sections.
The latter of those three section is where punters should head if they’re looking for the sporting events with live betting opportunities. On the main ‘In-Play’ page the currently live and upcoming in-play betting events are listed by sport and when you select an event you are taken to its in-play dashboard. The exact makeup of the dashboard differs depending on which kind of event you select but the following should give you an idea of what the dashboards comprise.
The in-play dashboard offered by Totesport for live football matches is split into two main areas. The top of the dashboard features a football pitch graphic alongside an interactive collection of statistics and is also where the match score and clock is displayed. The football pitch graphic is where the live updates (dangerous attacks, corners etc.) of the match will appear, whilst a whole host of match statistics are available to scroll through beside it. The other main area of the dashboard, meanwhile, is where the available betting markets for the match are displayed. They are listed under different tabs, which are arranged by bet type.
Horse Racing In-Play
Whilst Totesport are indelible linked to horse racing their betting site does still take the form of a traditional sportsbook, meaning that in-running betting on horse racing is not available. The bookmaker do not offer live streaming of races either, but they do have a live audio commentary service which cover some UK and Irish race meetings.
They could do with upping their game on this front if we’re honest.
Tennis is one of the most popular sports for in-play betting and Totesport regularly take loads of matches in-play. The in-play dashboards for those matches, however, are often quite disappointing and can comprise only the available betting markets with no other features, graphics or even live scoring. The bigger, higher profile matches – such as those taking place at Grand Slams – are the only ones to even feature a live scoreboard.
Again we’d hope for a lot more on this front.
Visit Totesport.co.uk & select ‘In-Play’ to see all markets and odds now.
We’ve already mentioned on a couple of occasions that Totesport is a betting site lacking in some of the major features which are provided by other online bookmakers. Unfortunately, live streaming is one such feature with Totesport providing no streams of any kind, either for horse racing or any other sport. In place of live streams, Totesport offer a somewhat limited radio commentary service with a handful of horse races each day and some major sporting events being covered.
How to Access Commentaries
On the home page of the Totesport website, if you scroll down a fair way, you will find a ‘Radio Commentaries’ option on the left hand side. Select that option and a separate radio player window will open. Within that window you will see a list of the current ongoing commentaries as well as the upcoming events which will have commentary available.
Listen to live commentaries at Totesport.co.uk – just select Radio Commentaries to access.
Geo restrictions apply, open account to listen.

The organisation which would eventually become Totesport was founded as the Racehorse Betting Control Board, as an entity to provide legal on-course horse racing betting.
The board was reconstituted as the Horserace Totalisator Board (The Tote). It had the responsibility of redistributing funds to racing transferred to the Horserace Betting Levy Board.
The Tote opened the first of a large number of high street betting shops.
Tote Direct was established to allow the channelling of Tote bets from other high street bookmakers into Tote pools.
Numerous government plans and items of legislation were published with the aim of privatising the Tote, which had to this point remained publically owned.
It was finally announced that the Tote would be sold on the open market.
After a number of failures and stalled attempts to complete the sale, The Tote was finally sold to British bookmaker Betfred. They rebranded the company as Totesport and continue to operate both betting shops and an online service using the brand name.
Bad Reviews & Complaints
A good way to get an idea of how an online bookmaker is to use on a day-to-day basis is to take a look at the reviews which previous customers post about it.
Those reviews are readily available through sites like Trust Pilot, and as is the case for all betting sites, Totesport are quite widely reviewed. As is also the case for other bookmakers, there are a number of negative as well as positive reviews. We’ve taken a look at the bad reviews to assess where they point to genuine issues with the Totesport service and where they are just disgruntled punters letting off steam.
A good number of the bad reviews of Totesport focus upon the company’s promotions and how they haven’t worked out well in practice for the reviewers.
When you read such reviews, however, it becomes very obviously apparent that those who posted them did not read the terms and conditions of the offers before taking part. If they had, they would have been well aware of the restrictions and rules which they have subsequently taken to the internet to complain about.
One point which is raised by a few negative Totesport reviews which does deserve a little attention, regards the ownership of the company by Betfred and how that impacts upon the Totesport welcome promotion.
A number of reviewers have complained that they tried to take part in that promotion and only after having bet were they informed that they were ineligible due to previously having held a Betfred account. This is a limitation not readily made apparent by Totesport and makes something of a mockery of the Totesport brand supposedly being operated separately to their parent company.
Totesport Review – Our Rating
- Solid Selection of Markets. Totesport price up an array of pre-event and in-play markets for loads of different sports.
- Range of Ongoing Promotions. A good selection of interesting promotions, covering lots of different sports, are available to Totesport punters.
- Decent In-Play Selection. Plenty of events are taken in-play on a daily basis and in-play dashboards are decent but certainly not great.
- No Cash Out. Totesport are essentially alone amongst major bookmakers in not offering any cash out facility.
- Lack of Live Streaming. There is also no live streaming whatsoever on offer to Totesport punters.
- Poor Welcome Promotion. New customer offer only refunds an initial losing bet, so will provide nothing to any punter whose first bet wins.
- Slow Website. The Totesport desktop website and their mobile offering is typically very slow and far from user-friendly.
A veritable institution when it comes to on-course horse racing betting, Totesport’s online sportsbook service unfortunately does not live up to that reputation. Providing a decent selection of betting markets and ongoing promotions, Totesport unfortunately lacks much else to recommend it over any of its main competitors. There is no cash out facility available, no live streaming on offer and the website itself is often slow to load and far from intuitive. Star Rating 2.5 out of 5.0.
