William Hill have an outstanding reputation with punters when it comes to customer service and reputation… and without blowing their trumpet too much they’ve also got a pretty good handle on existing customer promotions and live streaming. It’s rare we hand out a 5 star rating to any bookmaker but this time it’s hard to justify anything else.

Punters who are eligible for the William Hill welcome promotion, who sign up using promo code ‘C30’ and who place a qualifying sportsbook bet, will be credited with their three £10 free bet tokens when that qualifying bet is settled.

The tokens must be used independently of any real money bets and can each only be used once in its entirety to place a sportsbook bet. Whilst the free bet tokens themselves are non-withdrawable, any winnings resulting from their use will be paid as real money which can be withdrawn immediately if desired. Those winnings, however, will never include the return of the initial free bet stake.

As useful and attractive as many of the above listed features undoubtedly are, at the end of the day an online sportsbook is only as good as the betting opportunities it provides. It’s even easier to see which betting markets will be eligible for cash out (or cash in as William Hill call it), as the markets which are eligible are marked up with the words ‘Cash In’ in yellow.

In-Play Review of William Hill

As part and parcel of the online betting service they provide to punters, William Hill take loads of different events from various sports in-play and offer a variety of live betting markets. Those events and markets can all be found within the dedicated in-play area of the William Hill website, and when a punter selects an event within that area they will be able to view its in-play dashboard. The dashboard will include a variety of different features which differ slightly from sport to sport, as the following should explain.

Football In-Play

William Hill Football

Loads of football matches are taken in-play by William Hill on a daily basis and each benefits from its own in-play dashboard. That dashboard will typically feature an animated graphic at the top which is then followed by a comprehensive list of the available betting markets for the match. The graphic offers two options to punters as to what it can display. The default option is that it will display a football pitch image, on which the match score, match clock and live updates from the game will be shown. With just one click, however, a punter can choose to change the display to a list-style readout of the notable events from the match and when they happened.

Tennis In-Play

The in-play dashboards provided by William Hill for live tennis matches are broadly similar to those attached to football matches, in that they also include a main graphic above the full list of available betting markets. In the case of tennis matches, however, the graphic comprises a comprehensive live scoreboard for the match and a small selection of notable statistics. Where available, the live stream for a match is also embedded as part of the same graphic and for the majority of matches the graphic can also be expanded to display continuously updating text commentary of the match as it plays out.

Horse Racing In-Play

William Hill’s in-play betting service ranks amongst the best around but, just like many other online betting sites rather than betting exchanges, they do not allow for in-running betting on horse racing.

If a punter has bet at least £1 on a horse race taking place in the UK or Ireland, however, William Hill do allow them to watch a live stream of the race in question, as will be explained in greater detail below.

Visit & select ‘In-Play’ to see all markets and odds now.

Live Streaming

Via their so-called ‘WHTV’ feature, William Hill give their customers the chance to watch live streams of a wide variety of different sporting events. Those include streams of all UK and Irish horse and greyhound races, as well as football matches, tennis matches, basketball games and an array of other sporting events on a regular basis.

How to Access Streams

  • Cricket
  • Darts
  • Football
  • Greyhound Racing
  • Handball
  • Horse Racing
  • Ice Hockey
  • Snooker
  • Tennis
  • Volleyball

William Hill provide live streams of all UK and Irish horse and greyhound races, as well as of some horse races from South Africa. The streams are all only available to those punters who have placed a bet worth at least £1 on the race which they wish to watch. If a punter has placed such a bet, the live stream of their race will be displayed at the top of the race’s individual page on the William Hill website.

Other Sports Streams

The main ‘WHTV’ service caters for those punters who wish to watch streams of events other than horse and greyhound races. Such streams are available to all logged in William Hill customers, subject to specific broadcasting rights and laws in the customer’s country. Available streams and links to watch them can be found within the ‘WHTV Live Streaming’ section of the bookmaker’s website.

Visit & select ‘WHTV Live Streaming’ to see the full schedule.

Bad Reviews & Complaints

As is the case for essentially every company that has been around long enough to have served a significant number of customers, William Hill are the subject of a number of negative reviews posted to channels such as Trust Pilot and the App Store.

We’ve taken a look at those reviews to pinpoint any issues which are talked about repeatedly and to suggest whether they represent actual weaknesses in William Hill’s service.

Questionable Complaints

A common theme when it comes to reviews of any and every online betting site, lots of the bad reviews of William Hill complain about having been asked to verify ID in order to make a withdrawal.

Such negative reviews generally claim that those ID requests represent William Hill trying to withhold winnings and that’s the basis for the customers’ complaints. The fact is, however, that William Hill – and all other bookmakers – are legally required to verify customer identities in order to ensure no legal activity takes place at their site.

Reasonable Concerns

Whereas complaints regarding ID verification don’t really have any grounds, there is another issue which is mentioned in negative reviews almost as much. That is that William Hill’s live chat facility is often less than helpful in that it takes a long time to get a reply and those replies which do come are often stock responses which don’t really solve punters’ issues. Whether this is a genuine and ongoing problem remains to be seen but there are enough reviews mentioning similar things to create some cause for concern.

William Hill Review – Our Rating

We Like
  • Loads of Markets. William Hill price up a wide range of markets for a huge array of different sports.
  • Terrific In-Play. Plenty of events of all types are taken in-play and benefit from very attractive and helpful in-play dashboards.
  • Outstanding Live Streaming. ‘WHTV’ gives punters the opportunity to watch a vast array of different live streams, covering plenty of different sports.
  • Good Welcome Promotion. William Hill’s new customer offer is reasonable generous and very easy to both understand and take part in.
We Don’t Like
  • Limited Ongoing Promotions. William Hill do not run quite as many ongoing offers and bonuses as some of their main competitors.
  • Live Chat. A number of customer reviews suggest that William Hill’s live chat feature is not as helpful as it could be

William Hill are one of the best-known and longest-lived names in the gambling industry and the overall quality of their online betting offering gives a clue as to why. The bookmaker offer one of the best selections of markets of any betting provider and also run a really comprehensive and impressive live streaming service. In-play betting options are equally well catered for and the company’s welcome promotion is one of the better options on offer. Slight weaknesses when it comes to other promotions and their live chat feature, therefore, do little to take the shine off an excellent overall service but not enough for us to mark them down for it. Star Rating 5 out of 5.0.
